Santa Claus in the Westwood Mall

Marquette, MI  –  December 9, 2015  –  Marquette Township got a little brighter last night as Santa Claus threw the switch to light the big, 33-foot Christmas tree in front of the Westwood Mall.

The weather was beautiful and the crowd was HUGE! Smiling children played and danced in front of the stage as they waited for Santa to arrive. The rest of the crowd sang Christmas carols with the Marquette Redmen Chorale.

Just then, the Grinch showed up and hopped onto the big stage with the Redmen Chorale! He stalked around the stage before he made them sing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!” The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department took him into custody after that and just in time! Santa Claus was arriving on the fire truck!

As Santa stepped down from the Marquette Township fire truck, the children crowded around him. Everyone wanted to shake his hand or squeeze in a quick hug! Santa made his way to the stage and sang “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” with the Redmen Chorale before Great Lakes Radio’s Major Discount started the countdown and Santa Claus flipped the big red switch, lighting the beautiful township tree.

The children followed Santa Claus across the parking lot into the Westwood Mall to get some snacks and wait for their turn to visit with Santa. Super One Foods provided delicious Christmas cookies for everyone, Biggby Coffee brought piping hot coffee for the grownups, and Honor Credit Union was on hand with over 300 bags of popcorn!

Everyone was smiling last night and it was a beautiful way to kick off Christmas here in Marquette Township. Click here to view more pictures.
